I never imagined going to São Tomé in my first month of TAP, but through the exchange system, I managed to do it. The layover in São Tomé is one of the most desired, not only for the destination itself, but also because is one the places where we stay longer. In this case, 50 hours. I was very lucky with the company, not only with the crew, but with the company they brought in. There were nine of us in total, and it was the first time on the island for most, so everyone was eager to explore and we decided to rent two jeeps to go to the south of the island on the first day.

Although it is only 60km to each side, the road is not easy, lots of curves and some holes. We also made several stops along the way, first to visit the Praia da Pesqueira Waterfall, then to take pictures with Pico Cão Grande and finally at the southern end of the island, at Praia Inhame, where we had a nice swim, had lunch and took a boat to the Ilha das Rolas, where the Ecuador line passes. On the way back we dined at Roça São João dos Angolares, an experience that was totally worth it!

All of the following photos were taken from the jeeps:

On the second and last day we had to be back at the hotel by 5:00 p.m. to prepare to return to Lisbon, so not everyone wanted to continue exploring the island. Only three resisted. We decided to head north, visit the city of São Tomé, especially the market and then continue west to Roça Agostinho Neto, then a dip in Praia dos Tamarindos and another in Lagoa Azul and finally we went to the Discoveries Stone the portuguese left on the island in 1470 when they first arrived there. We returned to São Tomé, where we had lunch at Papa Figo restaurant, where we had dined the night we landed, and returned to the hotel where we still had time to take a dip in the pool before going to the airport. Again, all the photos were taken in a moving car, so you won’t see photos of the places I describe yet 😛
