After a fabulous and windy sunrise at the highest point in Madeira, Pico Ruivo, we continued on to Porto Moniz, in the northwest of the island, to spend the day in its famous natural pools.

There are two areas of pools: the old ones, with free access, with a more natural aspect, where small fishes of different sizes swim among volcanic rocks; and the new ones, a man-made bathing area around the same volcanic rocks, with all services and a direct access to the sea. Here you pay 1,5€ per person to access the pools. In both pools there are restaurants, bathrooms and a souvenir shop.

We opted for the old ones, they seemed much more authentic, besides that they had a lot less people. Soraia had snorkel equipment, which kept us busy for a while! The rest of the time we spent sunbathing, talking and taking pictures, which I share with you now!
